Carla

Who am I?

I am a qualified lawyer, a Chartered Legal Executive, specialising in Family Law, particularly complex and sensitive matters involving domestic abuse and/or children. Throughout my career, I have represented clients on a private-paying and legal aid funded basis. I am the Assistant Manager of the Private Family Law Team at Bromleys.

I qualified using CILEx Law School, a specialist law school which allows students to study at degree level by distance-learning. This meant that I could work full-time gaining valuable practical experience in the legal environment that I would not otherwise have gained through the usual attending university route. I would study in the evenings over a 4-year period before qualifying in 2013, initially dealing with housing litigation disputes before re-training to specialise in Family Law & Practice.

In 2023, I was admitted as a CILEx Litigator and Advocate in Family Proceedings which confirms my higher status and rights of audience in Court than those awarded as standard upon qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive.

How can I help you?

In dealing with my key areas of specialism, children and/or domestic abuse matters, I act for family members of all types whether fathers or mothers or the wider family such as grandparents. I am frequently instructed to apply for Child Arrangement Orders to deal with where a child lives and/or who he/she spends time with. Applications can include prohibited steps or specific issue orders to prevent someone from doing something such as changing a child’s name or school or removing a child from someone’s care and can also include parental responsibility applications and/or declarations of parentage. For matters including domestic abuse, these can range from non-molestation orders and occupation orders to forced marriage protection orders and female genital mutilation protection orders, both applying for and opposing such applications.

I am passionate about ensuring that children get to enjoy relationships appropriately with both parents and the wider family where it is considered safe for them to do so and for the children coming out of court proceedings with an order/outcome that works for them. I work closely with a number of domestic abuse support services in Tameside and the surrounding areas.

A bit more about me

In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis and in early 2023 I qualified as an Assistant Tennis Coach at a local club.

To unwind, I enjoy reading, gaming and playing guitar.  I also practice yoga as a more relaxing past time together with sewing, knitting or crocheting a new project.
