Bromleys Launches Free Roadshows for Tameside Residents

Experts from Bromleys Solicitors have been on the road to tell Tameside residents about the importance of making a will and making legal provisions should they become incapable of dealing with financial and/or health and care decisions themselves.

Senior associate James Charnock and wills and probate specialists Kate Fletcher and Susanne Furness from our private client team, have held a series of free roadshows for people living in care and retirement homes and their relatives.

They were staged at Joseph Jennings Court and Bourne House in Ashton-under-Lyne and at Chesworth Court in Droylsden.

Joseph Jennings Court and Chesworth Court are retirement and sheltered housing complexes which are operated by the Housing & Care 21 Group. Bourne House is a private care home.

Further roadshows are planned for the autumn.

The informal events saw James, Kate and Susanne make presentations about the importance of making a will and having a Lasting Power of Attorney in place, and how best to go about doing these.

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document which allows the ‘donor’ to choose someone they trust to make financial and/or health and care decisions for them in the future, should they become unwilling or unable to do for themselves, say through injury or mental incapacity.

Bromleys has issued a new guide, called Planning for the Future which explains these topics in greater detail.

Kate said: “The events gave residents and their relatives the chance to have one-to-one discussions with us in an informal setting and we were warmly received at each venue.

“We are looking forward to staging further roadshows in the autumn.

“Preparing a will and planning your inheritance can be difficult, but they are important to give you and your loved ones peace of mind.

“Only if you make a will can you be sure that your estate will pass to the beneficiaries of your choice.

“Similarly, having a Lasting Power of Attorney in place can give peace of mind that decisions will be made by those with your best interests at heart.”
