Further Furlough Changes

We are all aware that on 29 May 2020, the Chancellor announced changes to the Job Retention Scheme (“Furlough”).  A summary of the changes are:-

  • From 1 July 2020, Employers can bring back Employee’s on a part-time basis;
  • The scheme will close to new applicants on 30 June 2020 therefore, the final date by which an Employer can place an Employee on Furlough was 10 June 2020 due to the need for the Furlough period to last a minimum of 3 weeks; and
  • From 1 August 2020, the contribution from the Government will change with further changes on 1 September 2020 and 1 October 2020.

In addition to the above however, on 10 June 2020, the Chancellor announced that Employer’s who have previously placed Employee’s on Furlough, would still be able to place Employee’s returning from family leave after 10 June 2020 on Furlough (examples of family leave include maternity, paternity, shared parental, parental, parental bereavement or adoption leave).
