Curzon Ashton Football Club is delighted to announce that the Tameside Stadium is now recognised as an accredited learning centre with Open Awards.

Open Awards is an Awarding Organisation approved by Ofqual and an Access Validating Agency approved by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). Open Awards provide Ofqual regulated qualifications and units across a range of sectors, QAA Access to Higher Education Diplomas and also offer bespoke quality endorsed units and flexible learning solutions as well as providing support in the delivery of traineeships and apprenticeships. Our qualifications and units are used across a range of education settings including Further Education, schools, sixth-form colleges, prisons, private training providers and third sector organisations.

Our first course has been funded through BBC Children in Need and is focused on assisting looked after children in their transition into independent living.   Thus we will deliver the Independent Living qualification at the ground which will cover essential skills like household expenses/budgeting and cooking a meal.  This news demonstrates the continued expansion of the community development programme.

Of the award Andy Cheshire Community Manager said “This is a fantastic progression for us as a club, to be recognised as an accredited learning centre with Open Awards.  It demonstrates our commitment to delivering accredited courses at the Tameside Stadium to our local community – helping to improve people’s lives through education and lifelong learning in an informal, fun and vibrant setting.”

Heather Akehurst Open Awards CEO said “Open Awards are delighted to be working with Curzon Ashton FC and their impressive community work. It’s an important partnership for us – as it’s working with Centres like Curzon Ashton FC that Open Awards can ‘change lives through learning’.
